How Weybeach Started: Our Story in La Santa

There are places you visit, and there are places that stay with you.

For us, Lanzarote was the second kind.

Coming from Switzerland and the Czech Republic, we were already drawn to an active lifestyle long before Weybeach existed. We travelled for sport, spent time by the ocean, went running and cycling, and looked for places where you could combine an active life with the freedom to work and stay for longer.

Then we found La Santa.

It did not take long to understand why people who love sport keep coming back here. The village is small, the ocean is always close, and the surroundings offer incredible possibilities for surfing, triathlon, running, cycling and simply being outdoors.

La Santa felt right from the beginning.

And because we are entrepreneurs, we also looked at the place from another perspective. Could you actually build something here that combined the things we value ourselves: great accommodation, an active lifestyle and the ability to work from anywhere?

The answer was Weybeach.

Find out more about us

The idea behind Weybeach

We wanted to create the kind of accommodation we were always looking for ourselves.

A great location. Good design. Comfortable places to stay. And the freedom to organise your days around sport, the ocean, work and everything else that makes Lanzarote special.

For us, working remotely was always part of that picture. High-speed internet is therefore not just an extra on the amenities list. It is part of how we designed Weybeach from the start. You can spend the morning in the water, go for a ride or a run, and still have a reliable connection when it is time to work.

In 2023, we turned the idea into reality.

We started with apartments in La Santa, close to the ocean and right in the middle of village life. The location was the easy part. The real challenge was creating places that combined the character of La Santa with the comfort and functionality we wanted for ourselves and our guests.

Growing beyond La Santa

As Weybeach developed, we began looking for other opportunities on Lanzarote.

We found them in the form of 2 fincas.

Infinity pool, Finca Marisa Tinajo

In May 2024, we opened Finca Marisa in Tinajo. It gave us the opportunity to offer something different while staying true to the same principles that had shaped Weybeach in La Santa: carefully chosen locations, comfortable spaces and the freedom to experience Lanzarote in your own way.

Finca Marisa has also allowed us to develop the Weybeach experience further.

Breakfast, Finca Marisa Tinajo

Breakfast is included for guests staying at Finca Marisa, with a buffet offering a relaxed start to the day. Guests staying at our other Weybeach properties can also book the breakfast buffet at Finca Marisa during their stay.

Massage area, Finca Marisa Tinajo

We have also opened a massage service at Finca Marisa. It is available to guests staying at Finca Marisa as well as guests staying at our other Weybeach locations – a simple way to add some recovery and relaxation to a stay in Lanzarote.

Outside area with pool, Finca Tiagua

Today, Weybeach also includes Finca Tiagua which was previously known as Finca 81.

Each place has its own atmosphere and character. La Santa puts you close to the ocean and the energy of the village. The fincas offer more space and a different perspective on the island.

They are not competing ideas. They are different ways of enjoying Lanzarote.

A place for more than holidays

Being entrepreneurs ourselves has also shaped the way we use and develop our properties.

Weybeach is not only for people coming to Lanzarote on holiday. High-speed internet makes it possible to combine a stay with remote work, whether that means answering a few emails between sessions in the water or spending several weeks working from the island.

Our fincas also offer something that goes beyond a typical holiday stay. They can be rented by companies looking for a place in Lanzarote for team trips, meetings, retreats or working together away from the usual office environment.

We like that flexibility.

The same place can be part of a surf trip, a training week, a workation or a company retreat.

Supporting athletes who share our passion

Sport has always been part of our connection to Lanzarote, so supporting athletes was a natural step for Weybeach.

One of the first athletes we became involved with was Swiss triathlete Carole Perrot.

Carole came to Lanzarote to train, and that first connection developed into a partnership. Her sporting achievements are impressive – including becoming Xterra World Champion and winning three European titles in 2024 – but what we value just as much is her attitude towards sport.

Later, we met Día Polo Sanz, a bodyboarder born and raised in La Santa.

Día grew up with the ocean on his doorstep and represents the next generation of local surfers and bodyboarders competing internationally. His connection to La Santa is genuine, and that makes the partnership particularly special to us.

Meet our Ambassadors

Where Weybeach is today

Looking back, the idea behind Weybeach was actually quite simple.

We wanted to create places in Lanzarote that we would want to stay in ourselves.

It started with La Santa and has grown into apartments, fincas, spaces for companies and partnerships with athletes.

The locations have expanded, but the idea has remained the same: combine good places, an active lifestyle and the freedom to experience Lanzarote your own way.

And La Santa is still at the heart of it.

Because that is where the whole story began.

The article highlights our practical, island-ready design approach, specifically praising the robust masonry beds and kitchens built to withstand the local climate. It also recognizes our core philosophy: honoring Lanzarote’s traditional architecture through careful, sensitive restoration rather than relying on new construction.

Holidays are the perfect time to switch off and recharge. We are delighted to introduce our new massage offering at Finca Marisa —designed entirely for your relaxation and well-being.

A tranquil space

massage room finca marisa

In line with Lanzarote’s natural beauty and our resort’s architectural language, our new massage room is a haven of simplicity. Soft lighting, timber ceilings, and natural materials create a calm, understated environment where you can instantly feel at ease.

Time for yourself

Whether you need a soothing full-body treatment after exploring the volcanic landscapes, targeted recovery after a workout, or simply a quiet moment to unwind, our range of treatments is tailored to your needs.

Take a break from the everyday and book your wellness moment directly with us at the resort.

The New Apartment Alegranza

Stepping into the newly renovated Apartment Alegranza today, you are met with a light-filled, tranquil holiday home. What isn’t immediately obvious is that this was one of the most demanding renovation projects in our resort, Weybeach Finca Marisa.

Rather than simply applying a coat of paint and adding a few stylish pieces of furniture, we completely turned the apartment on its head. Why? Because we wanted to create a space that doesn’t just look good in photos, but actually allows you to settle in and truly unwind.

Apartment Alegranza living room

A radical shift for light and space

The original layout had a major drawback: the main living areas faced a narrow service alley, while the main terrace remained disconnected from daily life. So, we made a bold decision and sacrificed an entire bedroom.

Apartment Alegranza kitchen and room

Where a closed-off room once stood, there is now an open-plan, bespoke kitchen-diner. The result? The entire apartment now flows seamlessly onto the terrace. Enlarged window openings allow Lanzarote’s warm light to reach deep into the space, finally opening up the views to where they belong.

Honest design over off-the-shelf furniture

We wanted an interior that radiates calm while easily handling the realities of island life. You might notice the unusual masonry kitchen or the built-in masonry bed bases. These aren’t just aesthetic statements; they are a practical choice using honest, local materials. The pleasant side effect for you as a guest? A masonry bed never creaks. It offers the sturdiest, quietest sleep you could wish for after a day exploring the beaches or volcanoes.

Apartment Alegranza room

Selecting the colour palette didn’t require much searching either—a glance out of the window was enough. White masonry, green accents, and warm terracotta tones echo the volcanic landscape and complement the retro feel of the original, preserved ceramic tiles.

From utility space to private haven

A particular highlight is the terrace. Once an uninviting utility area housing water tanks and exposed pipework, we have transformed it into a second outdoor living room. Featuring subtropical planting, dark ceramic tiles (which effortlessly handle the fine dust brought by the regular Calima winds), and black volcanic gravel, it is now a secluded garden oasis.

Alegranza holds a special place for us, as it serves as the pilot apartment for the gradual refurbishment of the entire Weybeach Finca Marisa resort. It sets the standard for what lies ahead: thoughtful, relaxing spaces free from unnecessary clutter. For instance, we deliberately designed our new massage room without the usual Buddha statues—natural materials and calm speak for themselves.

“An Incredible Progression”: Insights from Xterra World Champion Carole Perrot

We are always thrilled when the dedication of our athletes gets the public recognition it deserves. Recently, Xterra World Champion and Weybeach athlete Carole Perrot sat down with the Swiss press to share the story of her extraordinary progression in the triathlon world. From an unexpected start in the sport to balancing rigorous training with family life, her journey is a masterclass in discipline and mental strength.

From Chance Beginnings to the World Stage

Christian Wey & Carole Perrot handshake Weybeach Sponsoring
Christian Wey & Carole Perrot | Weybeach Sponsoring

In a candid interview published by La Semaine, Carole explains that her entry into triathlons back in 2014 was completely by chance. After teaming up with her current coach, Bernard Maréchal, she experienced a rapid rise that ultimately led to her world title in Italy.

Reaching this level requires immense dedication—up to 15 hours of training a week during the off-season, combining gym work for explosiveness with long outdoor endurance sessions.

“Luck exists, but my father always told me: you make your own luck. If you don’t have the willpower to succeed, things don’t just happen by chance.”

— Carole Perrot

The Reality of Balancing 15-Hour Weeks

What makes Carole’s achievements even more remarkable is how she integrates this grueling schedule into her daily life. As a mother of two, she manages her training seamlessly through strict personal organization. By structuring her days precisely around her children’s routines, she ensures she can focus entirely on her athletic goals without added stress.

Proud to Support the Journey

The feature also highlights a tough reality for many endurance athletes: finding financial backing in a sport that receives less mainstream media coverage.

Knowing the immense grit it takes to compete at the highest level, we are incredibly proud to support Carole as part of our Weybeach sponsorship team. Her relentless determination perfectly reflects the values we champion, and we are excited to see where her journey takes her next.
